Where I am now:
- currently studying RSL Acting, Sound Engineering (BTEC Extended Certificate) and A-Level English Literature in college
- part of college choir and covers band
- part of New Wolsey Theatre's Young Company
- I aspire to go to a university specific for acting or a drama school.
Where I plan to be in the future:
- I want to have been in a touring production or troupe
- I want to have been on TV or film
SMART TARGETS
Short-term goal: (1-2 years - college):
S- I want to leave college having achieved good results in all 3 of my A-Levels.
M- I will need good grades in order to get into my desired university so I will have to focus on my studies and work hard to build on my skills.
A- I will need to be highly motivated as this work will not be easy, but it is achievable with effort.
R- These will help me to build on my qualifications and broaden my skills in acting.
T- This will be achieved by the end of year 13, within 2 years.
I have chosen this goal because I will need to build on my techniques in order to receive good grades and get into my desired university, which will help me achieve my long term goal.
To achieve this I will study and work hard, and develop my skills in performing. I will need to get good grades on all three A-Levels in order to get into the university or school of my choice.
Achieving this goal will help me to build on my confidence and feel accomplished, motivating me to move forward with my career.
Mid-Term Goal (University or drama school):
S- I want to be studying acting or clown at university or drama school and achieve some sort of qualification or degree by the end of the course.
M- I will need to apply myself and show determination in order to achieve my goal and continue my career.
A- I will need to be focused on my work and broaden my acting skills, making sure I push myself and show my potential.
R- This will help me to build on my qualifications and prove to potential productions or employers that I am focused and invested in my work, and willing to work hard to pursue my desired career.
T- This will take around 3 years after I begin attending my desired university or drama school.
I have chosen this goal because going to a drama school will help me build on my qualifications and show that I am accomplished and have an extensive knowledge of acting.
To achieve this I will need to look into different universities and research which courses would be best for me and help me to achieve my long-term goals.
Achieving this goal will provide me with experience working with other actors and help me feel accomplished in myself as I would be a step further to achieving my long-term goal.
Long-Term Goal
S- I aim to perform in a touring troupe in some well-known theatres across the country, and to have been on TV or film.
M- To do this I will need to make a name for myself in the industry by attending auditions and working and making connections with other members of the industry.
A- I will need to be confident, professional and clearly display my skills to show my potential as it can be a very fast-moving and challenging industry.
R- This is what I would like to pursue as a career in the future, and is one of the most important parts of achieving my goals.
T- This will take anywhere from 5 years to the extent of my career. I will have to work hard and be patient in order to make it far and achieve my goal.
I have chosen this goal because it is what I am aiming to do as a career in the future.
To achieve this I will work hard to make connections within the industry and attend as many auditions as I can, whilst continuing to develop my skills in performing.
Achieving this goal will help me to build my career as an actor and make a name for myself in the industry, enabling me to feel successful in my career.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
- I am focused and dedicated to acting
- I have good teamwork skills
- I achieved a grade 5 in GCSE Drama
- I have experience in singing due to voice lessons and musical theatre productions
- I have empathy towards people in different situations
Weaknesses
- I find it difficult to smile for the camera
- It takes time for me to become more confident in groups
- Physicality - I need to focus on my body language to make sure it is expressive enough.
Opportunities
- I am studying RSL Acting in college as well as English Literature which is good for universities
- I also studied Drama for 5 years in high school
- I have attended various community and school theatre groups such as the Junior Stowmarket Operatic and Dramatic Society
- I am part of the New Wolsey Theatre's young Company which has helped me to build on my acting skills in different genres such as comedy/clown
- I have watched lots of different theatre productions in various theatres, such as Frantic Assembly's Metamorphosis at the Mercury Theatre, Oedipus Electronica at the New Wolsey Theatre, The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre and Jekyll and Hyde at the Theatre Royal. I will continue to do this in order to grow my knowledge of different styles, techniques and genres.
Threats
- Not getting into the drama school of my choice
- Not being able to afford to go to the drama school of my choice
GROW Analysis
Goals: I aim to achieve high grades in all 3 of my subjects at A-Level, enabling me to continue on to my later gal of attending university or drama school.
Reality: I am doing well in my subjects and can begin to plan for exams and revise accordingly. I can also organise my work so that by year 13 I can easily access my studies.
Options: If I begin revising now, I will be in a routine by year 13 and able to continue building on and revisiting my knowledge for exams and assessments. In order to better build on my skills I will continue to take part in as many performances as possible both inside and outside of school.
Ways Forward: I will make sure to take part in as many performances in college as possible, and get involved in local theatre productions. I will research drama schools and courses, as well as different theatre companies.
Action Plan:
Short-Term Goal: In order to achieve my short-term goal of achieving good grades in all 3 A-Level subjects, I will make sure to work hard in college and revise for my exams, making sure I attend all lessons and use my non-contacts to do all of my homework and coursework. I will also aim to perform in as many productions as possible both in and out of school so I can continue to build on my skills in acting and performing.
Mid-Term Goal: In order to achieve my goal of attending and graduating drama school, I must make sure to thoroughly research various schools for courses that would be best suited to me and my aspirations. I must also make sure to work hard and attend every session in drama school, and apply to the school I am happy with.
Long-Term Goal: In order to achieve my goal of performing in a touring theatre troupe or acting onscreen, I must be social and make connections in the industry, being sure to show my versatility potential as an actor.
Timeline:
September 2023 to June 2025:
- Attend all lessons in RSL Acting
- Achieve a good grade in Acting (Distinction)
- Research and confidently apply to the drama school of my choice as well as some backups
2025 to 2027:
- Study stage acting and/or screen acting in drama school
- Develop my knowledge in this field and enhance my skills
- Work hard to leave school with a degree
2027 onward:
- Find a job to support costs
- Continue to develop my knowledge and experience in acting and look for roles in theatre and theatre troupes to join
